Deanna Witkowski CD Contest

This week, we are pleased to offer you the chance to be a winner of some great Catholic music.  Five lucky winners will each win one copy of Deanna Witkowski’s new CD From This Place. Deanna was a special guest on Episode #106 of Catholic Moments, so be sure to tune in and listen to our conversation.  Here is a bit of information about this special CD:

From This Place finds Ms. Witkowski leading a core quartet, with Donny McCaslin on saxophones, John Patitucci on acoustic and electric bass, and Scott Latzky on drums. Her previously documented wide-ranging stylistic and emotional palette is broadened by the addition of guest vocalists Laila Biali, Peter Eldridge (of the New York Voices), and 2009 Grammy-nominated Kate McGarry. With its emphasis on breathing new life into texts from nineteenth century poets, the Mass, scriptures, and her own pen, Ms. Witkowski shows another side of her considerable talent: a stunning gift to find the essence of a text and to translate that essence into sound along with a contemplative spirit as an original lyricist.

To enter, you must leave a comment on this post with a valid email address (which won’t be published or shared) before Midnight PST on Tuesday, June 30, 2009.  I’ll draw a random winners and announce the names here on the website.

Update: Our lucky winners are Melanie (#2), Corina (#5), Renee (#15), Jen (#33) and Sylvia (#41). Your prize will be sent soon.  Take a look at our other contests for more great chances to win!

  1. Having lost all hopes of getting a highly prized (by Steve and of course, moi) ipod touch, I will post! post! post! here to put my name in the hat for this beautiful CD. Proof that there’s so much lovely talent around us–no need to listen to the drivel on the airwaves.

~Maria, aka, my favorite things are the free ones

If I don’t win this one I may just have to buy it myself! I’m always on the lookout for great new Catholic artists, and I find them so often at Lisa Hendey’s various media sources. Thanks Lisa!

  3. Thanks for your podcast! It’s not easy to find high quality religious music. Enjoyed listening to the music and interview!

  4. Came across your podcast through “On the U” with Steve. I thought it would be more for women, but I am hooked. I love your little podcasts within the podcast to make my drive to work and back and even walks go very smoothly and fast. Love Deanna’s music, also.

Keep shining your light instead of keeping it under a basket – God Bless,

  5. I don’t want to be entered into the contest (for obvious reasons)– but I want to thank you, Lisa, for a great interview, as well to thank those of you who have complimented the music. Your comments encourage me to continue in my work. I hope that you’ll take the time to visit me at– feel free to contact me through the site!

  7. Would be very blessed to receive a cd. My kids and I are excited about having a chance to win and hear such great music. I’d like to expose the kids in our youth group at church to this jazz music also. THANK YOU FOR UR TIME AND GOD BLESS YOU IN ALL YOU DO!

I did not know there was such a thing as Catholic Jazz. On the other hand, why not? I loved your interview with this talented artist. My older son plays the Alto Saxo and he loves jazz. This music will be great for him to listen to.Thanks again for a great podcast.
