  1. I love this! How do you do the gold in the background?
It’s interesting I see this now as just a few weeks ago a non-Catholic friend asked me why we do not believe St. Anne was immaculately conceived in order to hold Mary.
    I wasn’t sure how to answer…

  2. Thank you, all!
The icon is five feet tall with the deep gold frame, and has been behind the altar of St Anne Byzantine Catholic Church in San Luis Obispo, California, for the twenty years since its founding.
The gold is used in an amazing form called “gold leaf,” which is thinner than tissue! There is a layer of “size” which holds it, then a lacquer finish is applied.
I believe God made St Anne as holy as she needed to be to carry our Blessed mother from conception to birth ~ legend has it that at three Anne and Joachim brought Mary to the temple to be raised ~
    Blessings to all!
