Tech Talk: What Would Be on Mary's iPad?

Let’s pretend, for a moment, that Mary had an iPad. (Yes, I know: there’s all sorts of suspension of belief here.)

Here are five apps I think she would have on her iPad:

  • iPieta – I’ve been trying for years to figure out what iPieta doesn’t include. Near as I can tell, there’s no chocolate.
  • Magnificat – Yes, the Magnificat magazine, delivered to your device! You get a month free and then you can subscribe for a lower rate, still see the lovely cover art, and have it delivered automatically to your iPad. Mary would surely have it for the way it offers many prayer opportunities, daily scripture readings, and reflections from the saints and holy writers.
  • Catholic News Live – What better way to know what’s going on in the worldwide Church than this app?
  • DayOne Journal – Maybe she would use it to make notes of Jesus’ progress, important things she was pondering, or just to make a note of a novena she started. Hard telling, as handy and useful and NICE as this app is.
  • My Horse – Because, in case you didn’t know, Mother Mary loves horses, so she would be sure to spend time with virtual horses during those times she couldn’t be with them in person.

YOUR TURN: What do you think Mary would have on her iPad?

  1. Google Earth would come in handy when she has to retrace her steps to Jerusalem and locate her missing 12-year-old.
Catholic Radio is a great resource for free Catholic programming including the Mass.

  2. I think Our Lady would have the Divine Mercy app and the Mary app, not that as the Mother of Mercy she doesn’t know all they contain, but rather just in case someone asked her what she had on her iPad —it makes for excellent Mercy marketing.

I also think she would have the Patron Saints App so that should she bump into any of the saints during her daily duties in heaven, she can wish them a happy feast day : )

Last, but not least, would be InstaPaper, for those moments when she wants to read an article on CatholicMom.com, but saving souls calls. That way she can “save” the article to her “read later” file.

  3. Jon Hickman on

VerseWise (RSV-CE version, naturally), iBreviary HD, The Newman Guide (just in case Her Son opted for a college education) and SantoRosario.

  4. We cannot undo the abortion of the past, but in union with the Mother of God, especially under her title of Our Lady of Guadalupe we can do two things.  First, we can make reparation for the millions of God’s unborn, our brothers and sisters, who have been killed in the past.  Second, we can pray for the poor hearts and souls of those parents who have destroyed their own unborn offspring or are being tempted to do so…What better way to do this than with Stations for the Unborn App! Plus iBreviary, Mary And Divine Mercy Apps…additionally it would seem appropos for her to have a copy of St Alphonsus de Liguori Preparation for Death in iBook format! And … Because I imagine Her as a contemplative most probably
Imitation of Christ and Abp Fulton Sheen audio collection…to name a few.
