Finding the Best Water Filter System

Are any of you shopping around for the best water filters for drinking water? Today I’m hoping you’ll be able to help each other figure out which is the best water filter system.  This post began when a reader emailed asking what I recommend, but the problem is that I wouldn’t recommend our current set up.  (Yes, this is what we spent about $4000 on a few years ago, before I researched everything to death like I do now.  OUCH.)
