Karen — CFCA Friend of the Month for June 2012

In so many ways, our partnership with Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) has blessed my heart. I’m somewhat sad to share that last month’s friend Sharath has not yet been sponsored. But I’m also confident that when the perfect family connects with Sharath (learn more here), they will be blessed beyond measure. In the mean time, each day when I look at his photo and pray for him to be supported, I am graced to play a small part in supporting CFCA’s mission in my own little way. This month, I’m asking you to prayerfully consider doing the same — for less than the price of movie tickets for a family of four, you can change the world of one precious soul (and your own world too!)

Karen — Friend of the Month for June 2012

Take one look at the bright smile of this month’s little friend, and you’re sure to find yourself smiling too! Karen is one of more than 1,000 Colombian children on CFCA’s waiting list for sponsorship. She’s 3 years old and has three older siblings. Although both her parents work outside the home, their combined income is too low to meet their family’s needs. Her favorite school subject is drawing, and she likes to play with dolls. At home she helps out by taking care of the dishes.

CFCA has a rich history in Colombia. Florelia Delgado, of Colombia, was the first child to be sponsored through CFCA in 1982. Since that beginning CFCA in Colombia has grown to include more than 19,000 sponsored children and aging friends. We’d love for Karen to join them!

To learn more about Karen or to sponsor her (or another child or aging friend), please visit the CFCA website.

Each month, we will be introducing you to our “Friend of the Month” and inviting you and your family to sponsor our friend. It’s my dream that we — as a CatholicMom.com family — will be able to share our blessings and God’s love with those who need assistance.

More about CFCA

For more than 30 years, Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA)has brought hope to families living in poverty in 22 countries. Founded in 1981 by lay Catholics acting on the Gospel call to serve the poor, it has grown into a movement of more than 250,000 sponsors who are supporting more than 300,000 children, youth and aging friends worldwide.

When a sponsor commits to sponsoring a child, youth or aging friend for $30 a month through CFCA’s Hope for a Family sponsorship program, it impacts the entire family. Sponsorship provides basic necessities like food, education, clothing and access to medical care, along with the encouragement needed for families to build a path out of poverty.

  • The Hope for a Family sponsorship program provides much more than charity to families in need. CFCA takes a personal approach that focuses on partnering with each family to fulfill their basic needs while empowering them to create a path out of poverty through education, skills training, livelihood programs and community-building activities.
  • Grounded in the Gospel call to serve the poor, CFCA is a lay Catholic organization working with and serving persons of all faith traditions.
  • CFCA is among the 200 largest nonprofits in the U.S. according to Forbes, and the only child sponsorship organization to receive an A+ rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. More than 94 percent of CFCA’s expenses go toward program support.

  1. I sponsor several children through CFCA and last year was fortunate enough to be able to travel to El Salvador and meet them! It is a great organization and well run. Anyone that has been thinking about how they can fulfill a mission calling, this is a good start. CFCA doesn’t spend money on hour long infomercials, but on the people that they serve. Hopefully Karen and Sharath will both be able to find sponsors soon!
