There are a great number of amazing TV programs and channels, movies and videos, podcasts, blogs and vlogs, YouTube channels, books and music that can fill our hearts and souls with quality ‘brain food‘ instead of numbing or insulting our sensibilities.
I do not think it is too much to want to spend our time viewing and listening to things that build up the Kingdom of God and encourage people. While some may argue that it is okay to relax once in a while and take in an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras or Desperate Housewives, I’m going to respectfully disagree, and make the argument that your time, even that spent relaxing, is much more valuable.
Here are two great men who seem to agree:
“Oh, how precious time is! Blessed are those who know how to make good use of it. Oh, if only all could understand how precious time is, undoubtedly everyone would do his best to spend it in a praiseworthy manner!” St. Padre Pio (source: Catholicfire.blogspot.com)
Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now! There are only so many tomorrows. ~Pope Paul VI (source: Gadel.info)
Sure, I didn’t really debate fairly on that using such holy men to make my point – though I honestly can’t think of a better way to make a point. Isn’t that the point of the saints, to provide us with great models of holiness, and direct our actions toward heaven?
The search has been extremely delightful and insightful — and it continues! I would love to receive input from the CatholicMom.com readers not only on the current pins, but also on what else they’d nominate for inclusion on this board!
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. ~ St. Paul, Phil 4:8-9.
