Today’s Gospel: Luke 9:1-6
Jesus chooses to need us. In his pre-resurrected human form, Jesus was limited to a certain place in time. As God, though, He is unlimited. God can spread the Good News and heal in any fashion He pleases. Yet, He chooses to use us.
God wants us to preach the Gospel in words and actions. He wants the world to know of the great love He desires to share with each and every one of us. We cannot be ashamed to talk about Jesus to anyone. If they do not want to hear it, we can kindly move on.
God asks us to heal the hurt we see around us. It may be through kind words, a shoulder to cry on, a tender heart to listen. A smile, a prayer, a helping hand can all ease another’s suffering. God has given us the power to heal.
We are all called, like the Apostles, to spread the kingdom of God. We can do it. We just need to trust in God. Jesus told the disciples not to take anything with them so that they would rely on God alone. Thus, they would know and understand that the power to cure diseases and the authority over demons came from God alone.
God still wishes to give us a share in His power. The power of His Spirit enables us to increase God’s goodness in the world and ease the suffering of our brother and sisters. Jesus needs us to continue His mission. Let’s be used by Him today.
In what real way today can I preach the Gospel or heal?
Jesus, thank you for choosing to need me. Trusting in your providence and power, may I become an effective preacher, teacher and healer. Come, Holy Spirit. Do not let me miss any opportunities to spread the kingdom of God. Use me, Lord. Amen.
