The Church of Mercy

By Pope Francis (Loyola Press, 2014)

About the book:

In the year since he was elected, Pope Francis’s simple message of mercy, service, and renewal has spread to every corner of the world. Through his gentle demeanor, selfless actions, and welcoming call for service to others, Pope Francis has captured the attention of a world longing for an authentic message of hope—we want to hear what he has to say.

Collected from Pope Francis’s speeches, homilies, and papers presented during the first year of his papacy, The Church of Mercy is the first Vatican-authorized book detailing his vision for the Catholic Church. From how to be citizens of the world to answering God’s call for evangelization, Pope Francis’s deep wisdom reminds us that the Church must move beyond its own walls and joyfully bring God’s mercy wherever suffering, division, or injustice exists.

Named TIME Magazine’s 2013 “Person of the Year,” Pope Francis is helping the Church continue toward an authentic Christianity that is faithful to the Gospel and resonant with the world’s greatest needs. The Church of Mercy encourages each of us to ignite the flame within to help share the light of Christ and revitalize the Church.

  1. My favorite fall tradition started when I was young. My parents took my brother, sister and I to Valley View Farm, where they would sell pumpkins from their patch and hot apple cider. Inside they had all kinds of trees decorated for Christmas. My parent allowed us to pick a new ornament every year for our tree.
Now that we have children, the tradition continues. We all meet at Valley View. All the grandkids (17 of them) each pick out an ornament. They go through the little haunted house. Then we all go down the street to a family style restaurant to eat together.
My dad saves all year for this special day. It is not only my favorite fall tradition, but one of my favorite all time memory, still in the making.

  2. My favorite Fall tradition is buying some of the Fall produce at the local Farmers Market. I really enjoy buying the apples and grapes. It’s also nice seeing all the pumpkins they have.

  3. Thanks for the giveaway! My favorite fall tradition is watching the leaves change color. I look forward to the Hunter’s Moon and the Harvest Moon as well.

  4. My favorite fall tradition is taking family walks in “sweater weather.” Cool, sunny days with changing leaves are the best!

  5. My favorite Fall activity is walking along the beautiful leaves and looking at the various trees and the clear blue sky. God is there with me!
