As some of you may remember, two years ago my son Fulton was severely burned in an accident on our homestead. And while lessons in faith and hope were plentiful, it was the revelation of God’s love hidden within such immense suffering that became the strongest lesson I have learned through this experience. Our Lord’s plans continue to be revealed to us through Fulton’s encounters with others, showing us that God’s love is far greater than any suffering we could endure.
I am not the first person to have learned of the blessings hidden within life’s crosses. But when we live in a world so focused on comfort, sometimes we forget to view our suffering as a gift to be treasured and a unique opportunity to share with others the beauty of redemptive suffering.
For the rest of Holy Week, open your hearts to consider the love hidden within the crosses you carry and may your newfound love of your cross inspire others to take up their crosses as well. For God is good, always. Even when we hurt.
