Today’s Gospel: Luke 8:16-18
Many of us love Jesus deeply and want to share it with others, but feel hesitant to evangelize or preach the Good News to those in our path. Or at least I feel that hesitancy most of the time.
One of our parish priests used to ask us often, “If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?” That question has stuck with me and always gave me great pause to really think about how I live my life and interact with other people. “How am I doing? What kind of evidence is there against me so far? Is it enough?” Whatever my answer is, the former attorney in me says, it should be more.
And while I do love to talk, I am a true believer in the phrase, “Actions speak louder than words.” It is not enough to love God and want to tell others about Him. I must live my life as a follower of Christ in action and deed as a way to reveal Christ’s love and sacrifice to those I encounter. Am I living that out on a daily basis? If I’m honest with myself, the answer is, “not always and not enough.”
Christ has lit this lamp within me with love and wants me to reveal it to all I encounter. I know with prayer and guidance I will continue to develop enough evidence to be convicted as a Christian if called.
If you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
Lord, please allow Your light to shine through me in my actions, deeds and words to bring others into the warmth of its glow.
