There is a lot of talk about the future. I don’t mean technology, but yeah, that too (My 7-year-old is quickly gaining on me in his tech-know-how).
I mean even in the low-tech world of our prayer time. If you’re like me you spend a lot of time praying about what is to come.
Lord, show me where you want me to go.
Lord, help my sons grow to be good men.
Lord, get me to the weekend!
Is God only concerned about tomorrow? Heck no. He’s right here in the now. In this very moment.
My eyes became opened to this through a series of events that circled around the story of Esther. Esther went from being timid and fearful to risking everything for her people. How? Through prayer, fasting and the convicting words of her cousin who said,
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14; emphasis mine)
What if this ordinary day is the day you become great?
Are you saying, “But it’s only a Thurssday and I’ve got a crock-pot meal going already. There’s nothing great on the horizon!” Sister, that’s the point. There is greatness waiting in every moment. You just have to look around.
I want to invite you to subscribe to my new podcast, “Perhaps This is the Moment.” It’s me and my husband Davis having thoughtful conversations about faith, culture, family and time travel. Yes. Episode 2 is about time travel. So perhaps THAT was the moment (See what I did there? Time travel joke!).
Davis is the father of two adult children with cystic fibrosis, one on earth and one in heaven. I have two guys in elementary school. We’ve both navigated divorce in the Church. We work together at a Catholic radio station. And we just found out the snail in our boys’ fish tank is a hermaphrodite. Try explaining that to a 5-year-old.
Listen to a preview of “Perhaps This is the Moment.” Subscribe on your favorite podcasting platform and the first four episodes will drop right into your feed on May 9. We’ve also got a fun bribe on our socials to incentivize you to like/give us free publicity. Find us on Facebook and Instagram @PerhapsPodcast.
I hope you get to listen and are reminded that you are exactly who God created you to be at this very moment, crock-pot meal and all.
