There is a beautiful tradition about John the Beloved Disciple who may also have been John the Evangelist. He was the only one of the Apostles not to die a martyr’s death. He lived to a great old age. When he was very old, perhaps in his 90’s, he could no longer walk and old spoke sparingly. Young people would have to carry him into the assemble to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, The Supper of the Lamb.

His simple, brief message to the community gathered in prayer was this: “Little children, love one another.” This Sunday’s Gospel underlines emphatically how important this new commandment was to our Blessed Lord and to the Apostles. May we all deepen our love for one another.

God bless,

Fr. Willy
