On Sunday,
May 9, 2004 we have the readings for the Fifth Sunday of Easter.
This week's Gospel story contains a special message for each of us. In
this Gospel passage, Jesus was talking with His disciples just hours before
He would die. He shared with them the following words:
My children, I will be with you only
a little while longer.
I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
This is how all will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another."
When Jesus gave this new commandment to His disciples, He
was giving it to you and me too! Love is at the heart of
this week's gospel, as it should be in our own hearts. During this
Easter season, let us remember the love that Jesus had for His disciples,
and let us look around our own homes, schools and communities for ways to
spread and share this love. Let's make it easy for people to know and
see that we are followers of Jesus by the way we live and love!

My First Catholic Bible gives
children aged 6 to 11 a devotional Bible of their very own. This
colorfully illustrated storybook Bible is not an adaptation or a
paraphrase of the Bible, but it uses selections from the actual text
of the highly respected and readable New Revised Standard Version,
Catholic Edition, including stories from the Deuterocanonical Books.
With Stories from Noah's
ark to the angel's annunciation to St. Mary - from Moses on the
mountain talking to God to St. Peter in Jerusalem preaching to people
from every nation - My First Catholic Bible is ideal for family
devotions, but also perfectly suited for children to read on their
own. The 260 Bible stories include memory verses and prayer starters
that make the scriptures even more exciting and fun to read.
