Prayers for Mothers and Families

Prayer of Parents for their Children

O Lord, omnipotent Father, we give you thanks for having given us children. They are our joy, and we accept with serenity the worries, fears and labors which bring us pain. Help us to love them sincerely. Through us you gave life to them; from eternity you knew them and loved them. Give us the wisdom to guide them, patience to teach them, vigilance to accustom them to the good through our example.   Support our love so that we may receive them back when they have strayed and make them good. It is often so difficult to understand them, to be as they would want us to be, to help them go on their way. Grant that they may always see our home as a haven in their time of need. Teach us and help us, O good Father, through the merits of Jesus, your Son and our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer for the Entrustment of the Family

Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, I come to you to entrust myself, my entire family, and my parish family to your two hearts. I desire to renew the vows of my baptism and place each member of my family through an act of faith, hope and love into loving union with the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I dedicate myself, each member of my family, and my parish family to the Guardian Angels God has given each one of us. O Holy Guardian Angels, enlighten, guide and protect each one so as to lead us safely home to heaven.

At Fatima, dear Mother of God, you appeared with St. Joseph and the Child Jesus blessing the world. O Holy Family, bestow blessings upon me, my entire family, and my parish family so that we may live the Christ - life. I desire that each member of my family, and my parish family adore always the Most Blessed Trinity and love our God in the most Blessed Sacrament.

Grant peace to each member of my family, and my parish family. Keep each one in the grace of Jesus Christ. Never permit any of my family, or my parish family to stray from the true faith. (For any family member, or parish family member, who has strayed, I beseech you to bind up the wounds, lift up the fallen, restore and keep each of our loved ones in grace. Bid them come back to their Father's true home.)   Amen.

A Prayer to St. Gerard for Motherhood

O glorious Saint Gerard, powerful intercessor before God, and wonder worker of our day, I call upon you and seek your help. You who always fulfilled God's will on earth, help me to do God's holy will. Intercede with the Giver of life, from whom all parenthood proceeds, that I may conceive and raise children who will please God in this life, and be heirs to the kingdom of heaven.   Amen.

A Prayer to St. Gerard for Safe Delivery

O great Saint Gerard, beloved servant of Jesus Christ, perfect imitator of your meek and humble Savior, and devoted child of Mother of God, enkindle within my heart one spark of that heavenly fire of charity which glowed in your heart and made you an angel of love.  O glorious Saint Gerard, because when falsely accused of crime, you did bear, like your Divine Master, without murmur or complaint, the calumnies of wicked men, you have been raised up by God as the patron and protector of expectant mothers.   Preserve me from danger and from the excessive pains accompanying childbirth, and shield the child which I now carry, that it may see the light of day and receive the purifying and life-giving waters of baptism through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

A Mother's Morning Blessing for Her Child
submitted by Elaine76

This child belongs to you, O Lord - mind and body and soul.
Lay claim this day to your little one
by place him securely in the Immaculate Heart of your mother, Mary,
in the protective arms of your guardian, Joseph,
and under the shining shield of Archangel, Michael.
Open his heart to the promptings of your Holy Spirit,
his eyes to the beauty of your creation,
his ears to the wise warnings of his guardian angel,
and his heart to every God-fearing soul you send into his life.
I ask this in the name of the Father who created him,
the Son who redeems him,
and the Spirit who sanctifies him.
Amen.

A Working Mother's Prayer
submitted by Elaine76

O Lord, since I must now entrust my precious child into the arms of another so that I may go forth to earn bread for our table, accept my offering of tears and deep regret.
Take my child, Lord - and my aching heart - and lay them together in your dear Mother's lap where both may rest secure until I come again to claim my treasures.
Amen.

Prayer for the Heart of a Child
by Leonce de Grandmaison, submitted by Darceg

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
preserve in me the heart of a child,
pure and transparent as a spring.
Obtain for me a simple heart
That does not brood over sorrows;
A heart generous in giving itself,
Quick to feel compassion;
A faithful, generous heart
that forgets no favor
and holds no grudge.
Give me a humble, gentle heart
Loving without asking any return;
A great indomitable heart
That no ingratitude can close,
No indifference can weary;
A heart tortured by its desire
for the glory of Jesus Christ:
Pierced by His love
With a wound that will heal
only in heaven.

A Mother's Poem
submitted by Tina43

Thank you Lord, for the privilege of having a new life within,
Thank you Lord, for Your son, who came to forgive our sins.

Bless this child I have inside,
And give me Your will, as my guide.

Give me Your wisdom, for this child I will raise,
That he or she will give You, honor and praise.

No matter what road this child may take,
Let he or she love You, never to forsake.

To you Lord our glory and praises we sing,
For you Lord are the Savior of all things.
Amen

FOR ALL YOU DO
submitted by Tina43

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
In educating our children, your doing your part
I know some days you get your fill,
But what a meaningful way to do Godís will.
Without teachers this world would not turn,
Who would make sure our children would learn.
So when you are tired and had rough day,
Just remember your appreciated in so many ways.
We thank God for all that you do,
And I know He has a place in heaven just for you!

Mom's Prayer
submitted by Muzikmom1

Dear Lord, it's such a hectic day,
With little time to stop and pray,
For life's been anything but calm
Since you called me to be a Mom.

Running errands, matching socks,
Building dreams with wooden blocks,
Cooking cleaning, finding shoes
And other stuff that children lose.

Fitting lids on bottled bugs
Wiping tears and giving hugs,
A stack of last week's mail to read
So where's the quiet time I need?

Yet, when I steal a moment, Lord,
Just at the sink or ironing board,
To ask the blessings of Your grace,
I see then, in my small one's face,

That you have blessed me all the while
And I stoop to kiss that precious smile.

Prayers for Young Children
submitted by Christina

DEAR little Lord, how
kind Thou art,
How gentle, loving too;
Teach me to know Thee
more and more ----
And grow to be like You

O Sacred Heart of Jesus
that so loved men,
May I never wound Thy heart
again.
I know that when I' m naughty.
then it makes Thee sad,
Please help me, Dearest Jesus, to
always make Thee glad.

GOOD MORNING JESUS
Good morning, dear Jesus, my Savior,
Good morning dear Mary, my Queen,
Good morning bright Angels,
fair sentinels
Of Jesus Who dwells here unseen,
Dear Lord, I bring Thee red roses
All wet with the dew of Thy grace.
Every thought, every word,
every action
And my heart I give for their vase.
This offering I make through Thy Mother
Whose Heart is so sinlessly white,
Whiter than wings of the Angels
Who watch and pray by me here
all night.
One favor, sweet Jesus, I ask of Thee,
Inflame my poor heart with
Thy love
So whilst I toil in this valley
My spirit may dwell far above.

Thank You God

Thank you, God, for this new day,
for the life you are giving each member of my family:
Thank you for (name each member of the immediate family, not forgetting yourself).
Bless each one of us
with the strength and health we need to serve you today,
with the joy we need not to give in to discouragement,
anger or boredom,
with the protection we need against physical and
moral danger,
with the love we need to give hope to those we meet.

Prayer for Trust in God
submitted by Kathleen

Dear God,
help us to realize that our children
are not just our children.
They happen to be yours.
They are yours first
before they are ours.
You love them much more than we do.
Your plans for them are surely better than ours.
The best way we can raise them up is to see to it
first that they know and love you, God,
who is their true Father.
If they are in your hands, God, what have we to fear?
