On Heaven and Earth

Tomorrow is the official launch date for the brand new book On Heaven and Earth: Pope Francis on Faith, Family, and the Church in the Twenty-First Century by (then Cardinal) Jorge Mario Bergoglio — our new Holy Father, Pope Francis — and Rabbi Abraham Skorka. Today, we’re offering our readers the chance to win one of five copies of this book being generously supplied to us by the book’s publisher, Image.

Here’s an overview:

From the man who became Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio shares his thoughts on religion, reason, and the challenges the world faces in the 21st century with Abraham Skorka, a rabbi and biophysicist.

For years Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of Argentina, and Rabbi Abraham Skorka were tenacious promoters of interreligious dialogues on faith and reason. They both sought to build bridges among Catholicism, Judaism, and the world at large. On Heaven and Earth, originally published in Argentina in 2010, brings together a series of these conversations where both men talked about various theological and worldly issues, including God, fundamentalism, atheism, abortion, homosexuality, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and globalization. From these personal and accessible talks comes a first-hand view of the man who would become pope to 1.2 billion Catholics around the world in March 2013.

Pope Francis answer the prayers for all God’s people. When he was chosen, for a man that I personal don’t know, I just felt he was the one. I love his simplicity of life and that he removed all the celebrant garments of a newly selected Pope. He came into the heights of the world and just presented himself, only just a man. It will be a great honor and opportunity to obtain a copy of the book, whether free or purchased.

  22. When Pope Francis was elected my son and I were watching. My son announced and let anyone he saw that his saint was chosen to be Pope. My son is autistic and watching the election and understanding who the Father of the Church is has been an eye opener to him and us seeing the Grace of God. It would just be an honor in having a copy of his book for my son.
