I grew up on the Berenstain Bears. To say I am a longtime fan would be an understatement. When I found out that they came out with a Storybook Bible, I was beyond excited! And when the new Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible Deluxe Edition, from Zonderkids, showed up at my house, I couldn’t wait to sit down with girls to read it. As they are familiar with the new and the old Berenstain bears books, they have become fans of this amazing Storybook Bible, as well.
As a longtime fan, this new Storybook Bible did not disappoint. The pictures, drawn by the famous Jan Berenstain, who passed away in 2012, are just precious. All of the classic quirks are there, as she brings the stories of Scripture to life with her humorous drawings that appeal so much to children. For example, in the story of the birth of Jesus, a row of mice stop to kneel humbly at his manger. These little creative touches give bedtime scripture stories a renewed joy. This book really brings the Bible to life in a fresh voice.
I am so thankful to have a remarkably natural way to continue introducing my girls to Scripture stories. We have a few Bible Storybooks that we like, but this one is now one of our top picks. I’m sure will continue to be a favorite on our bookshelf.
If you have ever found yourself at the library with a few Berenstain Bears books in hand, you will absolutely love their Storybook Bible. Additionally, this particular edition comes with an audio version in a beautiful extra folder, tucked neatly into a box with the book. It has 25 tracks, including an introduction, 23 audio bible stories you can listen to with your kids, and a close. The voice on the CD comes out sounding a little forced and slow, to me, but I can be picky.
I am sincerely enthusiastic about this book, and I hope it will bless other families in years to come, as it has already blessed our family.
