Candy Corn and Weekly Book Talk

Tis the season for sugar highs and costumes and the end of soccer. OK, so aside from the last of those, that could be any normal day for me…

The Way of Perfection, by St. Teresa of Avila (for the Catholic Spiritual Direction book club) (also free online)

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Though I struggled with large parts of this book, it is a good book and a spiritual classic for a reason. I love how St. Teresa goes through the Our Father and how she examines vocal prayer. She speaks to those of us who are highly distracted and who might tend to beat ourselves up for not being better at prayer.

cover-the princess guide faith lessons

I’m reading an advance copy of this and I’m pleasantly surprised by it. It’s a quick read (though I’m finding myself distracted by non-reading activities that keep me from it) and would be excellent for almost any of the young women in your life. (I don’t know if it’s intended that way, but it really strikes me as a book for younger women.)

The Four Cardinal Truths, by Josef Pieper (University of Notre Dame Press, 1966) (for the Catholic Spiritual Direction book club)

I’m as far as the preface, so I can’t speak about this book much, but it’s our next read for the Catholic Spiritual Direction book club, and I wanted to make sure I had it in-hand and had started on it before I had to write about it.

Up Next

I have to finish those books I’ve started and set to the side…so those are my “Up Next” books! 🙂
